The foregoing sections demonstrate that Search Engines have developed remarkably. They have increasingly become a key tool in conducting research for any purpose. Legal research can also untilise Search Engines as we have seen whether it be for cases, journal articles or statute. However, this can only occur where there are internet sites which are free to access and allow search engines to index them for searches. Of course, commercial publisher’s content will remain unavailable to the general public as long as no commercially viable alternative which would allow such a paradigm shift.
Finally, one must not forget that many legal resources are still in hard-copy only and thus a comprehensive appraoch to legal research should be undertaken, as otherwise relying solely on one medium might not necessarily provide all the answers.
